Unite with me in the cancer fight and support my fundraising efforts
As a general rule, Patrick and I have always believed that it would need to be a very special cause that would ever get us to ask our friends and family for some money. And more than that, if we were going to ask for money, we better do something to deserve it! So, with that in mind, we both decided that we couldn't think of anything better--or more crazy--to do than join the LiveStrong Challenge in Austin, TX, on October 24-25th.
As many of you know, Patrick has always been an avid biker. I, on the other hand, have only really started riding a bike more seriously for the last few months. Patrick is good. I am not so good—in fact I even fell off my bike while at a dead stop because I forgot my feet were clipped into the pedals. I'm hoping by the race that I will have overcome that particular problem.
But as we started riding more, we started reading up on the Livestrong challenge and couldn't think of a better way to spend some time in the great state of Texas and maybe see some Dillon's, get some good exercise, and raise some money for such an important cause.
Everyone's lives have been affected somehow by cancer and we aren't any different.
We will ride for my Grandma and Uncle David and also for a woman named Susan.
We didn't know Susan but we were both inspired by her fight and that's why we've joined up with Team Fatty: Fighting for Susan. (Learn more here: http://www.fatcyclist.com/about-fatty/). This team is pretty amazing and has raised more money than any group so far for the challenge. I also thought that I was much more at home with a team called Team Fatty than say a team named Team Speedy or Team Fit or Thin or something like that!
Patrick will be riding for the big 90 miles--the longest you can ride. I'll be doing the 45 miles and the 5k run.
Patrick and I are setting a goal of raising $3,000. Of course, we'll take more than that too. In the true Obama spirit, we plan to have grassroots donations fuel our efforts, so 5 bucks or maybe .25 cents a mile or whatever you could do would be so great. We even have our own websites.
Here's mine: http://austin09.livestrong.org/jomalley19
Here's Patrick's: http://austin09.livestrong.org/mpdillon
And if you donate, we give you all free rein to laugh at our outfits and maybe we'll even send out some pictures, which would in fact include spandex!! And stealing an idea from our good friend Cloe, aka. Chuck, if you are able to donate we will carry your names along with us for the ride.

Much Love,
Jen & Patrick
