One Cause, Many Hearts
Cancer is a cause that affects so many people. It has affected me, my family, my friends, my coworkers, my FFC teammates, Lance Armstrong, many employees of the Lance Armstrong Foundation and probably you as well.
In 1982, I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. I consider myself one of the lucky ones whose cancer was diagnosed in an early stage and had a very curable form of cancer. Others I have known, including my dad, my mother-in-law, Aunt Mary Ellen, Cousin Joey, my friends and friend’s family members, have not been so lucky and lost their cancer battles.
One June 20, I rode in honor of many amazing cancer survivors in the Seattle Challenge. On the weekend of July 11th, 3 of my honorees lost their battles with cancer. I sadly now ride in memory of them.
Since 1982, over 336 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with cancer and 226 million will have died from the disease. Worldwide, cancer will be the leading cause of death by 2010.
I continue to pick a fight with cancer for all the lives lost and affected by cancer.
I ask you to join me again in this fight by donating to me as I participate in the 2009 LIVESTRONG Challenges in Seattle, San Jose, Philadelphia and Austin.
Through the dollars and awareness that we raise, we can inspire and empower individuals, and we can make life better for the millions of people across the globe fighting cancer today.
